Austrian Student visit to UVHS

From 18th – 22nd September, UVHS welcomed 28 Austrian students and three teachers from the Seekirchen Grammar School near Salzburg.

The students were paired up with Year 9 students who had volunteered to act as ‘buddies’ to help our visitors find their way around and get to know our school. The Austrian students attended lessons with their buddies, allowing them to compare and contrast the different education systems in Austria and the UK.

Students took a trip to the living history museum, Beamish, in Country Durham, where they gained a real insight into what life was like in the 1900s. They also enjoyed a social event at the Old Farmhouse Restaurant in Ulverston in the evening.

Our Year 9 students have made some very valuable friendships and they are hoping to be able to carry out a reciprocal trip to the school near Salzburg next June.

It has never been more important to build relationships with other nations, and students at UVHS are leading with great example. Well done!
