The ICT Department aims to provide the opportunity for learners to develop the analytical, interpersonal, and technical skills they require to be active participants in today’s exciting, dynamic, digital world. We aim to nurture the talents of individual learners, irrespective of their level of ability and we believe that ICT should engage, empower and enthuse learners in a range of creative and computing disciplines.
ICT forms a major part of a learners’ educational experience in school. The use of ICT as a learning tool and for the preparation of work is encouraged across all subjects. Teaching is supported by excellent facilities, which include a completely networked school with several hundred computers for learner use. Access to computers is comprehensive and across all year groups with computer facilities open during lunch and after school.
Open to years 7 – 9, Code Club is an opportunity for students to develop their programming ability in an extra curricular environment.
The ICT department at UVHS offers a wide range of subject matter at Key stage 3 and 4 which enables our learners to engage with all aspects of digital literacy and computing. Continuous improvement is assessed through a number of teacher assessments and new for 2012-13 is a series of end of year tests at key stage 3.
Access to equipment
UVHS provides comprehensive access to computers through 5 bespoke rooms and an additional 3 computer rooms attached to other facilities. There is a fully integrated network with learners having their own drives and e-mail accounts. Computer rooms are available at lunch times and after school for independent learning.
ICT is staffed by Mrs Silcocks (subject leader), Mr Rayner (development co-ordinator) Miss Clapham (Computing/ICT) and Mr Evason (Computing/ICT).
