We are pleased to confirm that the under-16 education season ticket scheme will continue for the 2020/21 academic year. As your school has previously participated in this scheme you will be aware that the annual season ticket allows parents to save up to 50% on the cost of a season ticket for the full academic year for their child.

The earlier the ticket is bought the larger the savings, therefore, we would be grateful if you could post the information below on your website and parent portals and perhaps send out with any end of term communications.

Every parent worries about getting the correct fare together every morning. They have concerns about their child losing the money or spending it on something else and being left short for the journey home. Our Educational Season Ticket allows you to save upto 50% off the cost of travel and helps to calm those worries. and what’s more, if your child loses their season ticket we’ll replace it. The season ticket carries no restrictions, which means that your child can travel worry free during evenings and weekend too. Full details of which stations are available for your school can be found on the webpage below.

We know that safety will also be a priority for the new school year and Northern is committed to making sure that all passengers can travel safely on our trains.  From September we will be running more trains and increasing the number of services. Our trains and stations are being cleaned daily and we are using industry leading products such as Zoono that provides up to 30 days protection against Covid-19.  In addition, we will need your help to ensure your child is wearing a facemask when they travel (unless they are exempt). 

The pass can be purchased from the 1^st of August 2020 until the 30^th of September 2020, however, this fantastic 50% discount is only available on purchases made online in August. Purchases made in September will be at a reduced discount of 40%.

To make it easier (and safer) for parents/guardians, we have simplified the process so that tickets can be ordered online without the need to visit a local station. Your order will then be processed quickly and efficiently and the ticket(s) posted out in time for the start of the new school year. Please note the system will not be live until 1^st August, however you can register your interest or ask any questions prior to this at education@northernrailway.co.uk

You are still able to purchase the season ticket at a local ticket office however, this will be at a reduced discount – You will need to download and print the online form from the web address above and take to your local station.
