The Big UVHS Festive Food Bank Collection

As a school, we are fantastic at giving back to our local community. Charity often begins at home, and in the last four years we have supported the Barrow, Ulverston and Millom Food Banks by:

-Collecting a very heavy 660.6Kg of Food (Or an incredible 1,573 meals) as well as raising £1,233.34! for Cumbria Flood Relief at the same time in 2015! Our Food collection was 3 times greater than any other school in the area – we are amazing!

-Donating hundreds of mince pies in 2016.

-In 2017 we all pulled together as a school and made an incredible 51 family sized hampers. This equated to 1,471 extra meals!

-THEN…..in 2018 we went that little bit further and managed to put together 53 hampers to go out to families in the Furness Area! We had so many, Stollers very kindly came and collected them in a delivery van!

-In 2019 We set a new school record and sent an absolutely incredible 60 bags and boxes of supplies last year. It was a real community effort with Stollers, Kimberly Clark and Abbey Road Baptist Church all involved with helping distribute your AMAZING donations! Well done UVHS!

Why do we help every year?

With all the fun and indulgence of Christmas, it can sometimes seem a world away for us to imagine having nothing to eat or no heating on the big day - but with three of the wards in the Barrow community alone in the top 3% of the most deprived communities nationally; we must remember that there are people on our doorsteps sometimes silently suffering.

How do we help?

Helping is super simple! However, we must be Covid friendly with our donations.

Each form will fill a box with donations found on a shopping list provided in form time.

All donations will need to be handed in by Friday 4th of December. This gives us chance to get everything checked over, safely stored and ready for safe collection by the Food Bank Team.
